hi, i’m kirsty!
a freelance photographer based in chichester, west sussex!
growing up sandwiched between the coast & the south downs, i’ve always been just a little bit spoilt for choice on beautiful locations. i was an avid people-watcher from a young age and would spend most family walks & beach days as a silent witness to life around me. perhaps a lot of those quirks have remained with me all of these years as i continue to be hooked on capturing some of life’s most uplifting , imperfect and candid moments through photography & video.
i currently work with several companies doing everything from video editing to social media management! as much as photography is the beating heart of what i do, it’s safe to say i just love content creation just as much. having the opportunity to start working on social media for clients has opened so many doors for me and is a hugely rewarding way of combining all the things i love the most.
to put it simply, i just love what i do!
outside of work, i’m not much different- still chasing anything that lets me be creative! i’m into gardening, gaming, and more recently, painting (which has been equal parts rewarding and ridiculously challenging!!).
i rollerskate in the evenings, press flowers when i find a particularly pretty one, and spend far too much time tending to my fish tank- i have a betta fish, and fishkeeping has become one of my favourite little hobbies!
my family live out in spain, so i’m lucky to spend time there every now and then, exploring some seriously beautiful landscapes that always feel like a bit of a creative reset! i’m also a big sci-fi nerd, raised on all the cult classics (if it’s weird, old, or set in space, i’ve probably watched it!).
and lastly, you’ll usually find me editing to ambient movie scores- there’s nothing better for getting in the zone!
if you’re interested in keeping up to-date with everything i’m doing, you can follow my journey on socials @kirstyjaynerussell or simply re-visit this website from time to time as it will be refreshed monthly!
common q’s!
-
I currently shoot with 2x Canon R5’s!
-
Photo wise, I edit everything in Lightroom Classic!
For reels, it’s a mix between two programs. Anything featuring phone content (behind the scenes videos, etc) I use Adobe Premiere Pro. However, for anything shot on my cameras that requires more in-depth colour grading, I use Davinci Resolve!

Most of my media access comes from being hired either by the company / estate running the event, or by companies and publications needing coverage of their team or product at the event itself!
In the early days, the idea of getting media access was super daunting & seemed really difficult, but often the the trick is simply to be confident with your work, reach out to brands you align with and start networking! 90% of my work comes from word of mouth, so never underestimate the power of a good chat or introductory email!
behind the scenes!
90% of these beautiful behind the scenes photos are taken by the wonderful raife smith
